Draenei

I started my sketches of characters with a Light-forged Draenei. I thought i would try to draw a female Draenei as i never really draw females but i would give it a go. i began with a face sketch, with some detail. Then moved onto a full body but with simple details and frame.

Draenei Sketch.png

Okay, for starters my sketch took far too long, mainly my own fault as i am far too picky. But secondly it looks pretty ridiculous with proportions a bit all over the place.Next another issue was my Draenei’s face, with the nose and lips looking ridiculous. However, apart from all this it still gave me a good idea of what i was looking to do.

I then moved on to doing some photobashing to get quick detailed idea’s with slight differences for my character. I tried different element types, with an ice class and a lava class. I like these designs because they give me good ideas

Assassin

I further then decided to do some more sketches of a different fantasy character, called a Assassin. I did this sketch on Photoshop rather than on paper because i thought i would give it a go. However, it was a complete bloody nightmare! My Wacom tablet/pen decide it wanted be annoying as possible and instead of drawing when i made light and quick sketch marks it scrolled up and down my screen, being very irritating and making it very Difficult to actually produce anything.

shittysketch

This was the result for my troubles. It is okay however not to the standard i would have liked it to be, but then again it is just a sketch. I used three layers to create this; an outline layer, detail on top layer and lastly a detail behind layer. This was so i could distinguish where everything was easily and for example what part of his cape thing was behind him or in front of him.

Next, just like last time, i used Photoshop’s tools to do some photobashing. Allowing me to create some pretty quick idea generations to see what designs i could come up with.

assassin photobashing

The results are shown above, with the the one on the left being the most basic of changes to the far right Assassin being rather different to what she originally looked like. The far right two are pretty cool idea’s with both possibilities of me using some of the ideas from them to create a final sketch. I like the girls hairy with the ears, i think that the dark hair goes well with the deep red cat ears. Lastly, her arms make her look more of a bad ass battle warrior from outer space, but still goes by the original code and conduct of the assassins way, staying in the shadows and striking out when it is too late.

Ranger

For my final piece i decided to sketch a ranger. This is because out of the three they are the only ones with a long range weapon that you can shoot, so i thought that it would be cool to do.

Unfortunately i figured out what was wrong with my pen and why it was scrolling rather than drawing, which i tried to fix, however it was unsuccessful and my sketch took forever to do again. Should probably have done it on paper but oh well.

Ranger sketch

Above is the sketch and even though i had much trouble completing it, i am very happy with the sketch and it came out near enough how i wanted it to. The biggest thing for me is that the ladies curves and body proportions are realistic, making the sketch overall look a lot better. In addition, it was still very basic, allowing me to adapt everything easily for my final sketch.

Next, for the final time i used Photoshop to do some photobashing to quickly create ideas generation so i can have more ideas for my final drawing. This increases the chance of me being completely happy with my final piece.

horse ranger photobash

As you can see from above i went rather wild and wacky with this and made some crazy horse lady ranger! I think this is a really cool concept which i definitely think would be cool to draw.  However, at the same time i am extremely happy with my sketch and are veering  towards using that instead to create a very nice final piece.

Animation

I am not very confident with animation which makes me want to do something basic for this so that i reach the criteria but also have some practice on the work. So here are a few simple sketches of a few frames i drew in Photoshop.

Frames for Bulbasaur Animation

So, after three and a bit hours of sketching and re-sketching i finished with this. It is a drawing of Bulbasaur from the game Pokemon. If you do not know the game just leave right now… Anyway i used 8 frames for this each with a size 4 paint brush and just did some simple sketching. I will be colouring it in and possible adding some sort of background to it. Obviously Bulbasaur is a grass type Pokemon and is ninety percent covered in green. For transition into each frame i will have a zero point one second delay so that Bulbasaur looks to be walking at a normal speed and not like a mad man on speed.

Environmental Tileset

For this i am going to keep basic so that is passes because this is not something i am particularly wanting to concentrate my work on. For my tileset i sketched it in Photoshop on a custom board 512×512 in pixels with 300 resolution.

FantasyJungle_Tileset

The tileset turned out pretty and got a nice variety of sketches. I did not go for a particular style but more for a specific area which is a jungle/ruins type themes. Similar things you would see if Indiana Jones was a 2D platform game or something. Obviously from these sketches i would then colour and shade them in so they had more detail and if i really wanted to, i could use them. Which obviously i would not do because they are not particularly good enough in my opinion.

Above we have; a jungle/ruin floor tileset, basic tree, treasure chest, basic spike trap, metal barred door, cave entrance, wooden framed window, ruin pillar and lastly a ruin concrete platform or ground piece.

3D Modelling

Doubled-bladed Axe

A double-bladed axe is similar to a usual axe however it is more classed as a heavy weapon compared to a single bladed axe because of the increased weight from the second blade.

Sketch

I sketched a 2D version of the axe i wished to draw, it gave me a simple idea of what it could look like from a 90 degree side angle.I did not bother to add colour because i did not see much point at this stage because i know i will change my mind by the time i would have modelled the axe.

Blockout

For this i did not go into too much detail but i did show the angles and size of shapes that i decided for the axe. It simple has the handle, both blades and the top unit that helps to hold the entire axe together.

I started with the handle, adding vertices near the top, so that i could push them inwards to create an angle effect on the handle. I the used a cube and began to shape it into a curved, blade like structure. Adding vertices and edges to create enough poly’s to create a nice curve effect on the blade, however still keeping it looking sharp at the same time. To create the cuts on the edges of the blade i created new edges and then cut the new faces. i filled the gap and added a hard edge to create the deep cut effect. at this point i copied this object and flipped it to create the second blade, creating the doubled bladed axe. Lastly, to create a finishing touch i used another cube and made it into a metal brace to hold the blades to the handle. i simple did this by extruding some sides and bottoms to create its shape and adjusting the angle of the edges to give it a more unique shape.

Below is the result for my blockout.

Blockout_axe

Treasure Chest

The chest is birch wood treasure chest. I decided to make the chest opened to make it a bit more interesting rather than just a simple chest.

Sketch

the sketch i did was so simple because i did not know how the filter effects would come out so i just did a minute sketch on the shape, which was all that was important to me.

its far from perfect but it is only a sketch so it does not need to be also the colours was not something i was concerned with in my sketch so i left that out until i began using the filters and seeing how the final effect looked with different colours.

Just to add i did not do a Blockout either and that is because the whole shape finished is basically Blockout and the rest texturing so there was no point worrying about the Blockout to begin with.

Programming

Planning Movement-Flowchart

I used a flowchart to create a simple plan for movement so i would have an idea on what to do in Visual Studio’s when writing out my Code.
