Final Evaluation

this year has thrown a lot of challenges at me and this course has been one of the hardest challenges to overcome and i am not a even sure if i can say i overcome it at all. Anyway, this is my  personal evaluation of Unit 1-4 on this task.

I am going to start with Unit 1. This unit was done throughout this task and there was always things added to it over the course of time. In addition, all of the practical work and most of the written work was done in class also. The first of the three workshops was 2D Art. This was to show what ideas we were talking and thinking about in class so that i could share it with the blog for representation of my work. Moreover, i added some of the work i did, including my favourite which was the photo editing, which later gave me ideas to photo edit some photos of my mates that i had on my phone. Then next workshop was 3D digital art where we used Maya and Photoshop to create a stylised crate for a level in a game. This took time as it was my first time ever creating a 3D object on any software, but after persistence and many questions answered by Rob i was able to finally create the crate and import a net layout of it onto a Photoshop for me to hand paint to make my crate a final piece. For a first timer i think i did an exceptional job but that is just me :).

Next was Unit 2. Unit 2 was UAL work (do not ask me what it stands for because i have no idea either) which involved us researching about different subjects and conversations to do with Games Development and it as a industry in today’s generation. Task 2.1 involved me researching different types of jobs that i could get in the industry and what sort of things companies are looking for in people to take them on. And honestly they want experience and nice portfolio’s which a just graduated student will most likely not have. So it is not an easy market to just jump into. I believe my research was thorough and showed me the different options i could take (if i pass or survive the course or even the next two years in general, who knows). In the next part of unit 2 i had to create my own job applications to show that i had a good idea of what companies were looking for in my own work to show as examples to others. Which i think turned out alright and included the correct details for an application.

Things got touchy in Unit 3 with the discussions and research of race, sexuality and diversity in those topics. We went over how things had changed over time and how there are still issues with equality between sex and race to this day. I researched what the topics actually stood for, opinions in those matters and how they were linked to Games Development industry and what effects they have on studio’s. My research went in-depth into the topics and in addition explored how games introduced diversity of gender and race (like Mario).

Last but not least was Unit 4. This was the biggest unit of the four and took the most time and effort, however definitely the most important of the four. Unit 4 had two main sections, this was research and ideas generation. In 4.2 you can see i went into deep research, covering everything in depth without missing anything, by the time i had finished my research i had wrote over 5200 words. In addition, i was able to spend a lot of time on 4.5 to create some wonderfully detailed drawings, animation and 3D models that i was rather happy with the end result.

However, despite all this i had one massive issue. Which was time, i had major difficulties with using my time correctly. Deciding when i should be working at home and what i should be using that time to do the most important tasks. Moreover, I needed to plan at the beginning of the week when i would do some work and what i would do during that time and set my self a goal of what to achieve by the end of that week. Unfortunately, i would not do this well enough and kept falling behind, to the point i would stay up till 3 to 4 oclock in the morning trying to catch up with the tasks, but this then made= the quality of my work not be as good as it could have been if i had planned my work a lot better.
