Cars
If this course was not here this would be the next best thing and one of my big passions, cars. And more specifically Japanese cars. However, in Japan thousands of cars are left to rot and rust for years in may places all over Japan, they even have “cemeteries” for cars where they “got to die”. The hard truth is that it does not matter what the cars wort used to be or how sought after they are, they could all end up in cemeteries. And the thing is they are all so different, with the possibilities being unlimited. Allowing creators to have lots of fun creating ideas and designs for concepts.
From my research it is very easy to see how the idea can be turned into a project/idea. With the fact that the cars in the photos above have all been left in fields and forgotten about, leading to them to turn into such a terrible state. A lot of detail can be added to models including the usual; dents, scratches, paint warping and body paneling damage. However, you can also add more extensive damage i.e. rust, mold, missing body panels and just general broken parts. Lastly, for the area surrounding the cars i can have lots pf shrubbery and overgrown grass creeping up and surrounding the tires, front and rear bumpers or even through the engine and out the bonnet, obviously depending on the amount of shrubbery.
in conclusion, an abandoned car would be a exceptional idea to keep me interested and keen to complete the work and a project that could create a greatly detailed final product.
Chernobyl
Chernobyl is a world wide tragedy that has brought fear and worry to the technology of Nuclear Reactors. Nuclear reactors are a power source that is far better at production than all the others and does not do no where near the damage other polluting power plants do. However, if something is to go wrong the destruction is devastating and unfortunately Chernobyl is a horrendous example of the destruction they can cause.
Moreover, Chernobyl has become has become a place of curiosity, as people from all over the world are curious to adventure the abandoned cities and towns in Chernobyl, making it a bit of a tourist spot.
However, linking it to a project; when i think of “Forgotten” i also think of the theme of horror and mystery and Chernobyl makes a perfect fit for those two themes. Making it a good idea for a project as i can use research to help with ideas but i can make near to any changes i wish because no-one really knows whats happened since the tragedy. The only thing that would be an issue is creating something that keeps me interested throughout the Final Major Piece.
Abandoned Barns
old school barns are spectacular because they are all unique. All because in old times our ancestors would build them by hand as a family or a community. No matter what group of people put the barns up, all because of human error they are always different. Even if the general shape is the same, down to decisions made in each piece put together it is always different. This to me makes them very interesting for a start, moreover, when i think of an abandoned barn i think of the zombie map “Farm” from Call of Duty Black Ops 2. Which was always a difficult and challenging map, plus Black ops 2 is my favourite Call of Duty zombies out of the series. Because of this it gives me even more interest in the ideas that i could bring together by research and ideas generation. Lastly, as you can see in the moodboard above, it shows that the environment majorly effects the barns over the time and because they have been abandoned the environment has such a extreme effect on the barns.
Developing this into a barn is rather easy and in the previous paragraph i touched on the fact that when the barn is abandoned, the environment makes a extreme effect on the barns. Trees can brake through the roof or walls of the barn or storms can rip parts of the wooden panels off leaving big wholes in the sides or roof of the barn. In addition, high winds and general wear and tear can ruin the paint on the barn. These create great detail for creative projects and would all link to the theme of “Forgotten” because these sorts of detail are all linked to time and environment makes the link between abandoned barns and “Forgotten”.
Ruins
All over the world there are spectacular ruins that have been around for hundreds or even thousands of years. Created by our ancestors, ruins were made to last for generations so that we could learn about our past. Which makes the ruins almost like a story. This makes them very interesting to look at and learn from, especially when they have drawings or details that further tell us stories of our ancestors time.
Now Ruins are easily connected to our theme of “Forgotten”, this is done by the fact that ruins are created by buildings or structures that have been left and “forgotten” about, resulting in their condition deteriorating to pillars and rubble with only the bare bones of the buildings left in view. Moreover, the information these ruins gives us are about our ancestors and they have been long forgotten about by most of society, however they tell us about them and what happened during their time or what they were capable of in their generation.
Ruins have always been something that easily is related to the forgotten because it tells us things we once knew, reminding us of our past. Ruins were made to be perfect to leave a mark on future generations, super powerful people of history would do this a lot to show that they were rich and power during their time. People from Greece and Rome were well known for it.
Cemeteries
Cemeteries are not a nice place to be, they can be very spooky and upsetting from seeing the ones you love int he ground. But hold the last pieces of your loved ones forever in the ground. However, many people avoid cemeteries because they are scared to enter, resulting in people forgetting those they used to know or anyone in the cemeteries at all. Being left in these fields to not be seen or thought of again. But on the other end of the scale cemeteries remind people of who they love and who they know, making sure that those who do enter will always remember their loved ones that have passed away. This is where they can be linked to them “Forgotten”.
I find cemeteries interesting for a few reasons, firstly; peoples fear of them are interesting because it is all based on what we as humans created, stories, to entertain us and keep us happy. But it has resulted in us fearing the real versions of these stories. Secondly, in olden and even to this day, each gravestone is carved by hand to the design and style that has been asked by the customer. Making the details on each one always different, no matter how subtle or obvious it is. Allowing there to be a lot of fun modeling and each one to show little details like cracks or breaks in the stone.
Asylums
Asylums are the stuff of horror movies and nightmares. Between movies and the few that have entered abandoned asylums people have decided to never enter them again. They have left many people running out in fear of the eerie hallways with nothing on the walls except mold decay and written messages from patients going crazy being held in their. Asylums have always been in a interest of mine because they are interesting to explore and imagine what it could have been like in such an disturbing place.
Patients were placed in these asylums to try and treat them as such, even though they were more there for the safety of themselves and their community due to violent behavior. Leading to the patients being left to die in there, forgotten about by the ones that loved and cared for them and their friends that used to visit.
Making this idea into a project can be done by doing an area within the asylum showing the horrors that once occurred there. Having detailed, destroyed, demonic walls that shows the evil within people that were once kept here.
Zombie Apocalypse Style
I love zombie movie and games, and one step further i love the style of the scenes in them. The look of everything after years without human interference, plants growing up and throughout buildings. Almost like as though taking back what was theirs to begin with in a way, whilst whats left of the human race are fighting for survival against a diseased version of themselves that only have one thought, which is to tear apart and eat whatever lives and breathes. Each scene is almost a reminder of how quickly your day to day life can be taken away and destroyed, becoming a symbol of how life comes and goes, forever unstable.
Post apocalypse cities and towns become the way they are because they have been left behind by civilization and people have forgotten what they once had before the zombie apocalypse happened. In addition, it reminds survivors of the way of life they used to have before everything. This could easily be turned into a project by creating a environment of a man made structure being taken over by nature, show the aging abundance from humans.
