Initial Ideas

Idea 1

This idea is the one i am most interested in due to the fact it is something i have always been interested in in the first place. Cars have always been my biggest interest and something that i have had in common with my dad. Cars are beautiful pieces of man made art, that people spend day and night and hours of their time designing to create the best version of their idea possible. Unfortunately over the years cars are passed down from owner to owner until no one can find a use for a car or the car just doesn’t work anymore. In addition, we humans have not learnt how to recycle these cars properly or they just do not attempt to and leave the cars to deteriorate by themselves over times. An that is all because of human error, we as humans constantly forget or make mistakes, it is something we naturally do and will never be able to stop from happening.

I would like to create a 3D model of an abandoned car, that has clear signs of rust and age. With the paint work patchy and nature taking over its surroundings by making its way around the car and possible into the car.  This would show that the car has been abandoned for many years and completely forgotten about. I can add a small environment around the car, a few trees and bushes surrounding it with a old roller-cab tool box left by the car, showing someone once did try to restore the car to its glory days. The car itself i have not decided on but i do know that i do not want it to be a new car, it needs to be no newer than a Y plate car (2001).

The style i would go for for this piece would be a realistic style, meaning that hand painted textures are out of the window because for realism substance painter is a much better option, with the tools helping to create the right style to go with the theme. For this i would use Substance Painter, as it is a piece of software that i have used before. Plus it will create the style that i wish to create for the car and its environment.

An important part about the texturing of the model is the colours that i use for the model. There are different ways i could do it all depending on what makes the model look its best. For the car i believe i will want a bright paint for the car but a rather saturated surroundings. Showing how great colourful things can be destroyed.

Idea 2

This idea is based off the idea of a racing game, called Forza Horizon 4. There are many events that go on in the game that involve searching across an area looking for a barn. Almost every time i find one of these barns they always look as though they have not been seen to in a few decades, not matter what shape, design or material they are. One reason i find them interesting is because the are always different, and their surrounding are always different too. And because of their surroundings the effects done to the barn depends on its environment.

So for the actual creation i could produce a warn barn that is surrounded a by an environment that has effected its design. For example, if the barn is in the middle of a field the paint can be sun burnt showing that it has been exposed to the sun for many years. Whereas, if i did the barn in an environment where its surrounded by woods the paint would not be burnt but deteriorated due to natural oxidation. But as well as that, trees, bushes and any other plants found in and around the forest will effect the barn. This can include branches breaking through the wood panels or moss leaving patches over the roof and sides of the barn. Another good example would be vines or any other type of that uses objects to help grow upwards, they would use the walls as support, attaching themselves to it. Almost camouflaging the barn.

The model would include the barn itself, with whatever texture style i decide to use in the end. Next would be the environment around the barn, now this all depends on what area i would like the barn to be in. I most likely will not do the barn on a plain field, but instead in a forest or woods. This allows me to have trees, bushes and other shrubbery. Moreover, i can add rubbish outside the front doors, including; barrels, carriages or any other old tools or parts that would be seen on a farm. However, i can also add bigger models to go with the barn, like rickety wooden windmills or hay bales surrounding the barn. These would be good if i was to have the barn on a field.

The style i would like to go for is a hand-painted Amish barn, creating a basic but effect style. I will layer this with details of damage from years without anyone reconditioning the barn. Because the theme if “Forgotten” i want to have the environment rather sad or deserted, i feel like cold/dull colours will help with that whole theme.

Really run-down barn! Like the way it is falling apart and probably similar to the condition of the bunkhouse

Idea 3

My final idea is a rather generic idea, but is always a good one. Ruins are building, but also artifacts, they have been left and “forgotten” about for many many years and only recently found in the last 200 years or so. Meaning there is so much information that can be collected from the ruins.

Ruins come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and designs because of their origin, meaning and who originally created them would have had major effects on the buildings purpose and design.

I could create a wreckage of a building, possible some sort of church or holy building that has a pillars or parts of building around it, i can then add details of symbols or writing along the walls of the main building. I follow from this with creating a hand-painted texture for the building and other assets. This would make it possible for me to create a Greek style environment, just like how i think of ruins.

I would like the model to hale high saturation and brightness to represent the environment that Greece has, burning hot sun and clear blue seas, that kind of unrealistic stereotypical paradise that you would never see in England. I would like to use Photoshop and create hand-painted textures because i could create this style for the models a lot better in Photoshop than substance painter or any other software for that matter. Lastly, the colours would really pop with the heightened saturation.

Evaluation of my ideas

Overall the ideas are great and i like all three of them, they all have their pluses and minuses. However, even during writing the second and third idea i was still thinking about how i would go about doing my first idea. But i will not count the other two out. The only thing i need to do is add some primary research which i will do over the week because i am going to Angmering Raceway which has many wrecked old cars there, so it would be good to get some photos.
