Proposal

I have the issue that i want to take the art pathway but there are things i want to add to my game ideas that are rather technical at the same time, so because of this i will be doing the art pathway however i will be attempting to add technical ideas if i have the capability and the time to do so.In addition, i am taking this pathway as i feel i have good chance of showing my ‘talents’ of sorts better than what i could on the technical pathway. This is because i am not very confident at all at creating code and have trouble correcting errors in my code. In addition, i am not particularly sure about how i would go about adding combat as i have only done it once with Ash.

I then need to decide what game i wish to create. So i have decided to my first game idea, Cat Leap. I may change the name depending on what comes to my head but that is what i am calling it for now. This is because the idea came from the top of my head and i have not seen a game like it so far so that is another good reason to choose that game over others. Lastly, the game will allow me to show off my art more for the pathway i have chosen and also show some technical ability if there is enough time. However, i am still unsure as to whether i do a traditional 2D platformer that goes across the screen, left to right, or whether to do my original idea of creating a leaping effect that goes up the screen. In addition, depending on how far i get the infinite run idea might be something that may become too much to do in the time i have available.

This is confusing but after some research, some sleep and time i decided to change my entire plan to a 2D platformer were a pirate has to run along a dock, trying to avoid enemies that are patrolling and also chasing him/her, have not decided yet. In addition to this, I have decided i am also horrendous at drawing so i will be focusing this project on technical pathway, which should hopefully get me better marks. I know i have said i am not great at programming but that is because i have not tried much of it and have been trying to improve my art work. So hopefully i can change that around.

Key factors needed in my game

  • simple and easy to master game movement.
  • pick-ups to create a sense of achievement.
  • enemy AI’s that create a challenge to the player.
  • attacking methods to kill enemies.

Visual assets needed

  • tile-able ground assets so that i can make levels quickly and more of them to create a progressively harder game.
  • a background that supports the concept idea creating a nautical effect along the dock.
  • characters are to be simple but easily recognisable as an enemy or friendly.
  • A logo that makes the game recognisable by.
